2.1 Configure notebook

To use a Fabric notebook, we first need a workspace that is linked to a Fabric capacity.

Create a Workspace

  • In Fabric, go to the Workspaces menu and click + New workspace.
  • Enter a name for the new workspace.
  • Scroll down and expand the Advanced section.
  • Under License mode, select Fabric capacity (paid version) or Trial (trial version).

  • Click Apply to create the workspace.

 

Import the Notebook

You can download a basic notebook from https://portal.PowerBIConnector.nl under the Connectors tab. Click the download icon next to Connector for Exact Online (Fabric).

The download contains a ZIP file with the following files:

  • Notebook Fabric Connector Exact Online NL.ipynb: basic notebook with Dutch tables
  • Notebook Fabric Connector Exact Online EN.ipynb: basic notebook with English tables

Extract the contents of the ZIP file to a temporary location on your drive.

 

To import the notebook:

  • In the Fabric workspace, go to Import > Notebook > From this computer.

  • Click Upload and select the desired notebook (NL or EN) from the extracted location.

After uploading, the notebook will automatically be added and visible as an item in the workspace.

 

Create a Lakehouse

First, open the notebook by clicking the notebook item in the workspace. From the notebook, you need to create a new Lakehouse and link it to this notebook.

  • In the notebook, click Add data items and choose New lakehouse.

  • Enter a name for the Lakehouse, for example, LakehouseExactOnline.
  • Important: Check the box for Lakehouse schemas.

  • Click Create to create the Lakehouse. The Lakehouse will automatically be linked to the notebook.

The basic setup of the notebook is now complete. In the next chapter, we will start loading the data.
