3.3 Import Excel with SQL Endpoint

You can load data from a Fabric Lakehouse directly into Excel by using the SQL Endpoint. This allows Excel to connect to the Lakehouse tables, giving you the flexibility to choose how the data will be made available in Excel.

With the SQL Endpoint, you can choose between two options in Excel:

  • Display data in an Excel table: The selected Lakehouse tables are loaded as a structured Excel table, enabling you to immediately analyze, filter, or create PivotTables.
  • Create a connection only: The data is not directly loaded into a table, but a query connection is created. You can later use this connection to build tables, PivotTables, or Power Query transformations.

In both cases, changes to the underlying Lakehouse data will only become visible in Excel after refreshing the data.

Import via SQL Endpoint (in Excel)

Follow these steps to import the data:

  • In Excel, go to the Data tab and select Get Data > From Fabric > From Lakehouse.
  • blank
  • Browse to the Lakehouse from which you want to load the data and select the desired tables.
  • blank
  • Click the Load button to import the data. If you choose to load the data into a table, it will be immediately visible in an Excel worksheet.
  • blank

The selected tables have been loaded from the Lakehouse into Excel, and you can work with the data just as you normally would in Excel.
